What – An event hosted by The Buffalo News highlighting the local literary community in WNY.

               

                Workshops in the classrooms:

5 pm - Mystery workshop - Linda A. Lavid's latest book is Paloma, a novel of romantic suspense. She has also written "Rented Rooms, a collection of short fiction" which is used in entry level college courses.

6 pm - How to Publish workshop - Diane J. Newton is an award-winning suspense author from Lockport. Her current titles include Paradigm, Secrets, Fact or Fiction?, Unusual Destiny and Children of the Sun. An advocate and frequent public speaker, Newton heads the Authors Guild of WNY and Publishing and Promoting, an international marketing group.

7 pm - Humor workshop - Bob Swiatek’s latest book is "for seeing eye dogs only," a humorous look at missing intelligence, released in June 2005. The former high school math teacher, computer consultant and designer of bobcooks.com is known for highly praised, entertaining and instructional writing, including "The Read My Lips Cookbook," "Don't Bet On It," a novel about the national lottery and "Tick Tock, Don't Stop: A Manual For Workaholics."

8 pm – Children’s writing workshop - TBD.

9 pm - Nonfiction workshop - Author of four historical town books through Arcadia Publishing, Avis Townsend was columnist and social editor of the Lockport Union Sun & Journal, where she won an award from the New York State Associated Press for a two-part column on discrimination.  She has published many short stories and essays in magazines and anthologies.

 Panel Discussion in the Auditorium:

8 pm – Topic is “WNY as a thriving literary community”.  Panelists are Sally Fiedler, Diane Newton and Gay Baines.  We are waiting to hear back regarding the moderator of the discussion but I do invite all of you to participate from the audience in order to insure a passionate discussion. 

Authors Area:

5pm – 10pm – Authors will be featured at tables with their books throughout the evening.
